Overview

Princ Health is an application that connects to affiliated hospitals of the Principle Healthcare group to provide patients with greater convenience for medical care service.

My Role

  • Lead the design for the whole project.
  • Understands and improve current usage flow.
  • Developed and maintained a design system.
  • Interface Design.

Project Accomplishments

  • Components are more consistent throughout the application.
  • Design handoff to developers is more effective with the new design system.
  • The information architecture has been improved.
  • The app's retention rate has increased.

Challenge

When I start working on Princ Health application project, Team encountered a problem with inconsistent components in the design and also styles that didn’t follow corporate identity guidelines.

According to user interviews, it has been found that for the most part. The application doesn’t help them complete tasks they want to accomplish, such as appointment schedules and review medical information history. Also, most users can’t find what they want from this application. Usage statistics and customer feedback show that shortly after download. Users have a relatively high drop-off rate.

Our company have a plan to update the application which will be developed with Flutter. They saw potential in this migration which allows me to improve experience for this application.

Define Problem

Based on the statistics of usage data and feedback. We observed a significant user drop-off rate of 58% on our home page. Additionally, users are struggling to navigate to specific features and complete their tasks, as highlighted by feedback from customer support. Furthermore, inconsistent design across the application creates challenges for users, impacting both usability and the overall experience.

Analyze current application

  • Pain Point 1: The application’s structure is poorly designed, making it difficult for users to navigate and complete their tasks effectively.
  • Pain Point 2: The homepage is overloaded with sales items, offering little to no meaningful support for our users.
  • Pain Point 3: The application currently lacks a design system, making it challenging for users to differentiate between components and for the team to maintain consistency.

Unsorted menus and pages carried over from the previous design.

Solution

Now, we have a deeper understanding of user insights. We have begun the next step of optimizing to provide a better user experience.

1. Improve Information Architecture

We have broken down all the parts of this application and find what might be important to our users.

2. Redesign the entire application, including the homepage and user flow.

In the end, After going through the process of structuring, wireframe and testing. We have completely redesigned the interface with a great user experience in mind and follow corporate identity guidelines.

3. Creating a design system.

Enhance collaboration with developers and ensure consistency in component design and usability for users.

Conclusion

At the end of this phase, many aspects have been improved. However, I noticed a few minor issues that still persist

  • From the perspective of stakeholders and the marketing team, there is a need to include more banners or sales items. As a designer, the best approach to align business expectations with usability is to introduce a quick menu, allowing users easy access to the features they need.
  • While we now have well-defined components, a solid structure, and a robust design system, some interfaces used during development deviate from the original design. This highlights the need for improved communication with the development team during the handoff process.

An alternative design that prioritizes usability on the homepage while still including a section to drive sales.
